What does fluorouracil 5% cream do?
Fluorouracil topical is used to treat actinic or solar keratoses and a type of skin cancer called superficial basal cell carcinoma. This medicine is available only with your doctor's prescription.
What are the side effects of 5-fluorouracil on skin?
The most common side effects from topical 5-FU include skin irritation with associated erythema, dryness, and burning . Very few reports of severe adverse reactions from topical 5-FU exist, but reactions include allergic contact dermatitis and inflammatory colitis .
How long does it take for fluorouracil 5 cream to heal?
This usually takes about 2 to 4 weeks. However, the lesions may not be completely healed until 1 or 2 months after you stop using fluorouracil. If you are using fluorouracil to treat basal cell carcinoma, you should continue using it until the lesions are gone
Who should not use fluorouracil?
You should not use fluorouracil topical if you are allergic to fluorouracil, or if you have: a metabolic disorder called DPD (dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase) deficiency

Is fluorouracil cream bad for you?

The chance of severe and sometimes deadly side effects is raised in patients who do not have the enzyme dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) in the body. These include mouth irritation or sores, diarrhea, low white blood cell counts, or nerve problems. This drug can be harmful and even deadly to pets
